Accountants for Zero Emissions

The impacts of climate change are affecting the world already and is expected to worsen if not combated. As a result, many companies have started looking to turn green. Although initially it can be confusing where to start, accounting bodies are following suit. Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) have joined up with global accounting bodies together to combat greenhouse gas emissions and to try achieve zero emissions.

The Covid-19 pandemic has reminded businesses that there are non-financial risks that can severely impact businesses and economies. A commitment to being green is a measure that is necessary to address the prevalent ongoing issue that is climate change.

“Climate change is a non-financial risk that is no longer an issue on the horizon, it’s here and now,” CA ANZ chief executive Ainslie van Onselen said. The network represents more than 2.5million accountants and every firm, large or small and every individual will make a difference.

To begin making a real change that contributes, a business should ask itself what it’s contributing environmentally and what goals it has for the future. Proper evaluation can help see to a solid plan towards implementation. Real change is needed for companies, small businesses and individuals so they are not left behind in the green movement.

A cultural shift has placed importance on emissions and net zero and it’s becoming increasingly important to show real initiative beyond just lip service.
